A silky, dessert-like indulgence—born in Hanoi, loved worldwide.

In 1940s Hanoi, a milk shortage led to a delicious invention: 

Whisked egg yolks, sugar, and sweetened condensed milk transformed into a creamy foam, then poured over bold, aromatic Vietnamese Robusta coffee. The result? A rich, velvety drink that blends Vietnamese ingenuity with French café elegance. 


 

How to Make Egg Coffee (1 Serving)


Ingredients

1 cup hot Vietnamese black coffee (cà phê đen nóng)

2 egg yolks

4 tbsp sweetened condensed milk

1 tsp sugar

Single-serve phin filter

Instructions

  1. Brew your coffee using a phin filter. Keep the cup warm in a hot water bath.

  2. Whip egg yolks, condensed milk, and sugar with a hand mixer until creamy, light, and soft-peaked.

  3. Add 1 tsp of coffee into the foam and whisk briefly.

  4. Pour the foam over the coffee.

  5. Stir gently, sip slowly, and savor.
